About the Blog

To put it simply: I’m an Oklahoma native who got a little too tired of her own backyard to stay there indefinitely. I love travel, and have been privileged enough to stray off the beaten path, but I still find simple pleasure from exploring my home country, from the sprawling monuments of the National Mall in Washington, DC to the bays of Seattle on the West Coast. I relish the quiet moments, now, more than I ever did before.

I’m (now) a twenty-something high school teacher whose trade is the English language–and after writing for so long, I’ve grown tired of reading lists and how-tos, wishing to experience life in the moment as a participant rather than a spectator. To explore the hiking trails in the valleys of mountains. To get lost in a city of neon lights and a low hum of constant chatter.

I write–and I write a lot. But I’ve found that sometimes the silence leftover, the echo chamber those pieces find themselves in, is deafening. Most of the snippets you may come across here are only snapshots of my life. I still experience a vivid roller coaster of ups and downs, and while I am very blessed and privileged to get to experience what I do of the world, I also want to use these experiences as a way to both educate myself and other people. I want to give others the same sense of joy and wonder I have rediscovered in what I write.

I still value and cherish the two main Ts in my life: teaching and travel, wanting to experience the world beyond my comfort zone–the one I felt I missed out on in my younger years. I want to build something–a collection of stories, vivid moments frozen in time. A static piece of time, changing the person I was into who I am today. A journey–messy, but beautiful.

This blog is a journey.

And it has no end.
